ThornLand ~ Pets~ Our Mini Schnauzer Reg.AKC LEXIE LADY is considered the perfect family pet we agree. The miniature schnauzer is a tough and hardy companion as well as protector. With their classic beard and long eyebrows, this breed is easily recognizable all over the world. All schnauzers are thought to have developed in the kingdoms of Wurttemberg and Bavaria! Pictures of that era depict the schnauzer as a household companion. The dog was not only part of the family, but was also used to chase rats and guard produce carts in the marketplace. The miniature schnauzer is the smallest of the breed, it was developed as a companion pet. It is felt that the mini was developed by crossing the standard schnauzer with affenpinschers and poodles. Appearance and Size
The schnauzer is a compact sturdy dog. All have a stiff wiry hair coat with very soft hair mixed together with arched bristling eyebrows, whiskers and a beard. The most common coat color is salt and pepper.silver,black,white. In Germany, black is the more common color. Most schnauzers in Germany have cropped ears but in the United States, cropped and uncropped are seen ours is cropped. Uncropped ears sit high on the head and fold forward. The miniature schnauzer stands 12 to 14 inches at the shoulder and weighs 13 to 15 pounds. Personality All schnauzers are intelligent and reliable dogs that we have personally meet. They are very protective of their family and make good watchdogs.
Home and Family Relations
The schnauzer is a wonderful family pet and is quite tolerant of children ( exspecial our 8 yr old Son every second we are home she is great with him and our other pets and takes to other dogs and cats very good. They are often wary of strangers and will protect their family by alerting their owners of the presence of intruders. Training
Schnauzers tend to be independent dogs and do not tolerate harsh training or reprimand. They are easy to train, as long as positive reinforcement techniques are used.
Schnauzers are intelligent dogs and may become bored easily, a easy fixes for that is lots of toys of different kinds and large uncooked bones and lots of play and love and exercise. We have in our family "relative wise" and ours have 4 fixing to be 5 and we all love them and they all play together on our family get togethers! Ours is one minute sound to sleep people think she is sick she can sleep for hours. But when she gets excited she is ready for any kind of action. In order to keep their coat clean and tangle free, frequent grooming and clipping is necessary. Trips to the groomer are also necessary to maintain the classic schnauzer facial appearance. Life span 15 to 16 years old. Lexie Lady mostly plays with Faith and loves water can't keep her out of the fish pond our or off the water hose when it's on she is a blast and loves playing with our tiny Faith AKC Boston Terrier and our Juliet aka JUJU AKC Dalmatian. Our little Boston Terrier Faith she is 4 to 5 pounds. And VERY kissy and playful. Loves my Son as much as he loves her and Randy loves her also she just so cute and funny and low maintance. The Boston terrier is one of the few truly American breeds. Developed in Boston, Mass., the Boston terrier has steadily increased in popularity since the late 1800s. Though not one of the top dog breeds it does come in 11th place, the Boston's characteristic coloration and appearance make the dog readily recognizable. Our AKC Dalmatian Juliet easily recognized by her white coat and black spots, the Dalmatian is a good watch dog and natural protector. Also called the Carriage Dog, the Dalmatian has a long history of accompanying their masters on chariots, carriages and even fire engines.History & Origin
The history of the Dalmatian is uncertain to say the least. Experts disagree as to the country of origin of this breed. Dalmatian, a province of Yugoslavia and formerly of Austria, has claimed the origin of Dalmatians. However, France, India, Greece and several other countries have done likewise. Engravings from ancient Greece depict a spotted dog running behind chariots. This coaching ability is one of many ancient skills the breed possesses. The Dalmatian has proudly followed, preceded and run underneath traveling coaches providing protection from bandits. Nighttime found the pets sleeping beside the horses in the stable guarding the master's belongings very true with our Juliet. Historically, the Dalmatian has been utilized as a firehouse dog, circus performer, for search and rescue missions, and for hunting and retrieving. Before and Recently, this spotted performer has gained popularity as one of Hollywood's favorite breeds due to movies and leading to over breeding the Dalmatian so many people feel it is cool to have one due to them being popular in the movies. The American Kennel Club first registered the Dalmatian in 1888. It is classified as a non-sporting breed. "Don't know why because Juliet can point and hunt!"
Appearance The Dalmatian is a medium-sized dog with a sleek and muscular body. The facial expression is one of intelligence and readiness. The breed has a short, thick coat that lies very close to the body. Ours The spots are black they can be liver brown and round also. They begin to appear at around two weeks of age. Their born all white. Combinations of these colors and/or patches are not acceptable for show dogs. The top of the breed's head is flat. Ears are triangular and pendulous with the tip reaching approximately to the bottom of the cheek. The Dalmatian has blue or brown eyes ours is brown eye'd I perfered that. Combinations of these colors are acceptable. The nose should be the same color as the spots. Size Adult Dalmatians average between 19 and 23 inches at the height of the shoulder and weigh between 45 and 70 pounds. Our spayed female JUJU is around 45 pounds. Personality The Dalmatian is an active, energetic pet well known for undying protection of his owner. While not renowned as a dog that barks excessively, the Dalmatian may become vocal when strangers approach. The breed is usually eager to please his owner though is not too friendly with people they do not know or trust JUJU can read people so some she is all over. Home and Family Relations
This breed generally makes a good family pet. They can get along well with children and other pets if they are introduced while still a puppy ( ours son is 8 yrs old soon to be 9 yrs old and excepts all dogs of all ages, and cats-kids.) This breed enjoys being active and loves to go for long walks or to run in a big yard. Some owners report that their Dalmatian is curious and likes to explore. "Mine won't leave our property EVER unless with family and she still waits for permission to go!
Training The Dalmatian is an intelligent dog and learns readily. They have been successfully trained for retrieving, rescue, circus performance and as coach dogs. They provide excellent protection. Dalmatians are considered easy to train. VERY TRUE! Dalmatians may exhibit a curious smile and lips may be drawn tightly back. Interestingly, this expression is an indication of a playful mood and looks like a smile to us cute and funny she pulls her lips back like to smile no teeth showing at all some show teeth. With the popularity of Dalmatians because of the movies they are in, overbreeding and poor breeding have resulted in temperament problems with the breed. Ethical and diligent breeders are continuing to try to reduce the incidence of aggression and behavior problems within the breed. Make sure you obtain your Dalmatian from a reputable breeder "THAT'S WHAT WE DID AND WE LOVE HER!!! She is very low maintance and VERY healthy and sweet and protective. We do bring her in the house on the to hot or to cold days and we think all owners of this breed should also. Dalmatians do shed. Their short white hairs are easily noticeable on your clothes and furniture. (Put a blanket down on the floor or couch JUJU just stays right there if she gets up yo eat, drink, potty she goes right back to that blanket! Brushing your Dalmatian once or twice a week helps to remove dead hairs from the coat. Dalmatians may have "flaky" skin during winter months when the humidity is lower ours is in house have not had that problem. Talk with your veterinarian to determine possible treatments. Dalmatians' ears are very thin and have a poorer blood supply compared to the rest of the body. Because of this, frostbite can occur if your pet is left outside for too long in cold weather. THEY DO NOT DO WELL IN VERY COLD OR VERY HOT weather to us! Our Boston Terrier History and Origin
The Boston terrier was originally developed as a cross between the English bulldog and English terrier and called "round heads" or "bull terriers." Around 1870, one of the progeny of this cross, named "Judge," was imported into Boston. With hard work and strict breeding programs, the Boston as we know it today was developed.
In 1889, the American Bull Terrier Club was formed by a group of about 30 Boston fanciers. Over time, opposition arose from bull terrier and bulldog fanciers about the similarity of the breed's name.
In 1891, the American Bull Terrier Club changed its name to the Boston Terrier Club of America and changed the name of the breed to the Boston terrier. The breed was accepted into the American Kennel Club in 1893.
Appearance and Size The Boston terrier is a small, compact, muscular dog. The chest is broad and the tail can be either straight or curled. Bostons have a flat broad skull, short muzzle and ears set high on the head. The hair coat is short, smooth and shiny. The classic Boston colors are black with a white blaze and muzzle, but brindle and white, as well as brindle with black, are also accepted. The adult Boston terrier stands 14 to 15 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 15 to 25 pounds mine are 4 to 5 pounds and my best frend and breeder of Faith he adults are no more than 10 pounds. Personality
Boston terriers belong to the non-sporting group of dogs. They are gentle dogs and rarely fight. Their small size and neatness make them a good breed for apartments. Even though they are not fighters, they are protective and loyal to their family. Home and Family Relations Boston terriers are excellent companion pets for children and the elderly. They are just as happy playing dress-up with children or spending the day next to their owner on the couch.
Training The Boston terrier is intelligent and enthusiastic. The breed is easily house trained, and with time and patience, can learn obedience as well as many tricks.
The breed tends to wheeze and snore due to their short noses. Baths are not frequently needed and the Boston requires little grooming. Easy keepers I call them.
